We wanted to pull back the curtain and show you what a true, laser-recorded digital hologram print actually looks like in real life—no studio tricks, no special glasses, and absolutely plastic pyramid reflections or Pepper’s ghost gimmicks.
When people see a video of a 3D hologram of Charizard or Lionel Messi, the immediate reaction might be skepticism.
We get it. In our culture, the word “hologram” has been hijacked. People assume it’s a video editing trick, a 200-year-old optical illusion like Pepper’s Ghost, or something that requires you to wear heavy 3D headsets just to see it.
Even worse, with the current Pokémon trading card craze, people think a “holo” just means a flat, shiny piece of foil.
The LitiHolo 3D Hologram Printer builds light fields. Our desktop optical engine uses lasers…
…to permanently record small “hogels” (hologram elements, similar to “pixels” or picture elements) onto specialized, self-developing film plates.
When light hits that finished film plate, it recreates the exact original wavefront of the object. As you move your head—or as the camera moves around the plate in the video above—the perspective changes seamlessly. You are looking around the character horizontally and vertically, capturing multiple angles of a true 3D image.
A Look Under the Hood: The Prints in the Video
To show you exactly what our technology can do at different tiers, the video showcases three specific test prints utilizing 3D models from the popular Sketchfab community:
The Large Charizard (4″x5″ Plate): This is printed using our standard 1x1mm hogel resolution. It features full-parallax, meaning you get depth perception and a change in perspective whether you look left-to-right or up-and-down. (3D Model by iqra_soomro on Sketchfab).
The Small Charizard (2″x3″ Plate): To show the difference that resolution makes, this smaller plate utilizes our High-Resolution upgrade. It prints at a tight 0.5×0.5mm resolution, packing 4X more detail and clarity into the film plate.
The Lionel Messi Caricature (2″x3″ Plate): Also printed at the premium 0.5×0.5mm high-resolution tier with full-parallax, showing how a caricature portrait translates into a physical light-field print. (3D Model by minixcollection on Sketchfab).
How Does a Digital File Become a Laser Hologram?
You don’t need a corporate research lab or a physics degree to create these. The process follows these steps:
- Source the 3D Asset: You can take almost any 3D asset from libraries like Sketchfab, a smartphone 3D-capture app, or custom CAD designs, even capture a video of a person or real-life scene.
- Slice the Perspectives: Extract the 3D angles into distinct perspective images (we have a neat Sketchfab tool to help with that) or extract perspective frames from your video. These get fed into our custom LitiHolo Hogelizer software that creates the exact hogel images for printing your hologram.
- Laser Exposure: You place our self-developing film plate into the carriage. The printer automatically moves the plate under its optical arm, exposing the hogels to laser light.
- Instant Viewing: Because our photopolymer film plates are entirely self-developing, there are zero chemicals involved. As soon as the laser stops, you lift the plate out and look at your completed 3D hologram.
Up until now, building a system capable of this required a $1,000,000+ investment at institutions like MIT or Meta. Our goal is to bring that exact capability right to your desktop.
The Real Cost Breakdown: Desktop vs. Research Lab
When evaluating a breakthrough technology, the “How much does it cost?” question is usually met with hidden quotes, sales calls, and vague pricing. In alignment with our commitment to total transparency, here is exactly what it costs to bring true holographic printing to your workshop, classroom, studio, or business.
While a custom room-sized setup at a corporate research lab requires seven figures, a desktop LitiHolo hologram printer setup is accessible:
LitiHolo 3DHP Full Pro Pack ($5,449.99): For creators who want the exact capabilities shown in our Charizard and Messi demo video, the Pro Pack delivers the complete suite of additional features. This pack bundles the core printer with these upgrades:
Hi-Res Upgrade: Shifts resolution from 1x1mm down to 0.5×0.5mm, producing 4X more detail and clarity per print.
Full-Parallax Upgrade: Unlocks look-around depth on both the horizontal and vertical axes.
Ongoing Material Costs & Print Times
There are no hidden chemical or processing fees, but you do need to factor in your film plates and printing time:
- Film Replacements: Our specialized hologram film photopolymer plates develop instantly as they are exposed to the laser. Standard 2″x3″ Film Plate 10-packs retail for $99.99, while 20-packs are $174.99. Larger 4″x5″ plates cost $174.99 for a 6-pack.
- Estimated Printing Times: Because a digital hologram relies on encoding individual hogels, it is a precise optical process. A standard 1x1mm resolution print takes roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours for a 2″x3″ plate depending on the size of the overall image, while opting for high-resolution 0.5×0.5mm hologram printing increases the hogel density by 4X, expanding total print times proportionally.
