TTPM.com Video Review of Hologram Kit

Toys, Tots, Pets & More (TTPM) gave a great video review of our Hologram Kit just before Christmas a year or two ago, and we thought it was worth re-sharing.

“Make a real hologram, an image in full 3D that looks like you can touch it, in under 1 hour!”

TTPM LitiHolo Hologram Kit Review

What It Is

Kids can make a real hologram, an image in full 3D that looks like you can touch it, in under one hour with the Litiholo Hologram Kit. This kit comes with everything kids need to make up to 20 different holograms, including a laser diode, a battery pack, connectors, a special clip, 20 two-inch by three-inch film plates, a holographic plate holder, a laser mount, an LED darkroom light, a test object for one hologram, a black shutter card, a white alignment card, an uncoated alignment plate, and an instruction manual. As kids make the holograms, they can also read about the basic science and secrets of how holograms work through the information in the instruction manual.

The step-by-step instructions are pretty easy to follow, and most of the pieces are labeled so that you know what piece to use. We’re giving you a brief overview of how this works, but the actual instructions are a little more specific. You’ve got to assemble the laser mount, the holographic laser system, and the plate holder, and let the laser diode warm up for five minutes. When you’re ready, put the object on the plate holder, turn out the lights, and turn on the blue LED light. Insert one film plate into the plate holder and wait at least five minutes (or up to 10 minutes) to expose the hologram. Do not talk or touch the table or set-up during this time. You can view your finished hologram by removing the object from the plate holder and, with the laser diode still shining on the film plate, looking through the exposed film plate.

Is It Fun?

This is a pretty easy way for kids to make their own holograms and get a little hands-on with science. There are no chemicals to use and no cleanup, so kids can just enjoy the hologram they created and then immediately make some more. We also like that the instruction booklet includes information to explain to kids the history and science behind holograms.

Who It’s For

The Litiholo Hologram Kit is for ages 13 and up, but kids as young as 8 could make holograms with this kit as long as they had help from a parent.

What To Be Aware Of

Two AA batteries are required but not included.

It was a little difficult to get the special clip attached, but after several tries, we finally got ours to attach properly without touching the circuit board.

For best results when making a hologram, use the Hologram Kit on a sturdy surface in a darkened room and do not move, talk, or touch the surface on which your kit is set up until after the five minutes is up.

The holograms you make should last a long time because after the film plate is exposed, it is an inert plastic.

Additional film packs are sold separately.
